On December 20, 2024, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” saw the light of the day following the the high speed antics of the blue hedgehog from the previous parts. Jeff Fowler retains his directorial seat and along with his predecessors continues to embed action, humor and the right amount of emotions in a stunning manner that appeals to a variety of audience.
Plot Summary:
The plot follows Sonic once again who is voiced by Ben Schwartz, and this time he is accompanied by friends Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter). The chipper begins once again but this time there are old enemies who are bitter and relentless. Dr. Ivo Robotnik (Jim Carrey) has teamed up with the rest of the world with the backup of Professor Gerald Robotnik his grandfather, and together they plan on battling Shadow the Hedgehog (voiced by Keanu Reeves).
With an adverse past history of his Shadow, being a creation of professor Gerald, easily matches sonic with his abilities. Worry not, because rest assured Sonic has his teammates Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba) on his side, and together they unravel the deep plot . With action sequences surrounding the movie, the film provides a thrilling experience, alongside exploring identity, free will and the thick plot of redemption.
Cast and Performances:
Worst casting mistake of all time has to be Tails: After surviving Sin City 4 I’m shocked this isn’t considered I know I will not be watching anything else with Schwartz again. The Sonic movie remake continues to deepen he brings such youthful exuberance and charm. He is nailed in capturing Sonic’s spirit of adventure and his evolution which is simply the love of a child.
Best casting: Carrey manages to deliver a degree of over the top element to the character while successfully including aspects of his family in the most hilarious manner possible. No words describe a man better than a lunatic.
Best voice: Keanu’s performance was both brilliant and left to be desired as he did manage to inject some much needed dark twist to the character of Shadow while not managing to overshadow Sonic.
Worst casting in gaming history: Elba’s return as Knuckles added a sense of power and utter betrayal to the team if that wasn’t tragic enough look at the team if that doesn’t set the narrative for a sob story I do not know what will.
The beloved Mcdonald’s toy: O’Shaughnessey has managed to nurture warmth in the character of Sonic’s most trusted friend Tails or at least I hope I don’t remember Tails that much other than the popular McDonald’s toy.
Direction and Visuals:
Paul Speedway succeeds in his remarkable effort to attempting to amalgamate action filled sequences with some character depth and evolution within the show for the audience. With the introduction of Shadow slightly darker narrative can be introduced into the timeline while still being able to keep the original humour and the energy of the franchise intact. Talk about badassery, the movie is a blast with superbly created environments that include fast pace car chases , both the Shadow and Sonic designs…pure perfection
critical reception:
Sonic 3 has scored impressively with audiences and critics alike. On rotten tomatoes the film has an 88% rating, with many reviewers enjoying the screenplay and the character arcs. Metacritic says 59 indicating them as average or mixed, but audience ratings are quite high which suggests that the film is generally liked.
Box office performance:
The film did well in terms of box office sales making over US $ 62 million on its first weekend, outshining its rivals like Mufasa: The Lion King. This success goes a long way in proving the franchise is still popular and the widening of its film universe has worked.
