“Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3” is an Indian Hindi-language horror-comedy movie which was released on November 1st 2024 on account of the Diwali festival. The movie was directed by Anees Bazmee and was co-written by Aakash Kaushik, it also happens to be a sequel from the “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” series.

Synopsis:

The third part of the movie takes place in Kolkata, and revolves around Ruhaan Randhawa who is an exorcist and also goes by the name Rooh Baba played by Kartik Aaryan. He is hired by Meera and her uncle to explore a castle of Raktgat which is rumored to be possessed by a spirit called Manjulika. However, when Ruhaan takes it upon himself to solve the mystery he finds a scheme that involves the spirited Manjulika played by Vidya Balan and some conniving priests. The movie uses a beautiful contrast of humor and horror to keep the viewers entertained with plot twists and action sequences.

Production Details:

Originally the film was set to go into production in March 2024 while the principal photography had started in March 2023, however, the filming for the movie took place across Mumbai, Kolkata, Orchha, and leh till September 2024. Pritam as well as Tanishk Bagchi, Amaal Mallik, Lijo George, DJ Chetas and Aditya Rikhari were responsible for the music of the film while Anuj Krumar took care of the Cinematography aspects of the film.

Critical Reception:

“Bhool Bhuliyaa 3” has been well received by the general audience but has been criticized harshly by some of the critics . Sukanya Verma of Rediff com gave the movie a rating of 3 out of 5 stars due to the mesmerizing performance of Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit, but on the contrary Bollywood Hungama rated it 4.5 out of 5 commending elements such as performances, script, climax as well as execution. People might not expect great reviews from Anuj Kummar of The Hindu who claimed the the actresses are heavily underappreciated and under utilized, he went on to consider the movie as a drab horror comedy.

Box office performance:

Another interesting aspect of the movie is the gross it made by only spending 150 crore in budget, “Bhool Bhuliyaa 3″ was published and did a worldwide gross of around ₹423.85 crore which alone makes the movie one of the most grossing hit films of 2024.

Analysis:

In horror comedy world cringe, Bhool Bhuliyaa 3 is a sequel that follows on the path set by it is predecessors by adding new faces while trying retain the old ones. With Kartik Aaryan taking control of the role of Rooh Baba the movie promises a perfect blend of humor and suspense giving great expectations of a memorable performance.

In the movie, Vidya Balan brings forth Manjulika once again, and this time she casts herself as a woman filled with rage. This time, Moira Dexter takes on the role of Mandira, which completely changes the direction of the story.

The location of the film is Kolkata, and that enhances the scary horror-comedy essential for the setting. Anees Bazmee manages to maintain this comedic-horror combination, although some critics suggest that the film is more comedy-infused and the horror aspect is somewhat lost.

In the film, Aakash Kaushik focuses on the screenplay which tries to include the unforeseeable. Some parts of the plot were however too foreseen. The music is well suited to the general feeling of the film, since the music includes changes that are necessary as the movie progresses from a dull to a very tense mood.

Conclusion:

“Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (Ramble of the Forgotten 3)” is a sequel with the same set of people and it does combine horror and comedy which most will enjoy. Improvements can be made, but one can see how the film has performed and the amounts of love it has received. They have performed decently and are only getting better, especially Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan.

For fans of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, horror-comedy fans, in general, this movie offers a cinematic experience where one gets to laugh while also thrumming with racing hearts during some sequences of the film.
