Interstellar

Synopsis

In Interstellar, Earth is undergoing an environmental collapse. The planet is slowly becoming uninhabitable because of widespread dust storms and crop failures. Societal structures are plummeting into a dystopian realm where progress is being replaced with survival agriculture, which further diminishes hope for the future.

To make matters more dire, we have Cooper, a former NASA pilot (played by Matthew McConaughey) transformed into a farmer, struggling singlehandedly to take care of his children, Tom and Murphy, after losing his wife. Murphy, fondly referred to as “Murph”, inherits her father’s scientific inclinations and becomes engrossed with peculiar phenomena regarding gravity that occur in the household.

These phenomena bring Cooper and Murph to a secret NASA base under the command of Professor Brand, Michael Caine. Here, Cooper gains knowledge about an ambitious mission to pass through a newly detected wormhole adjacent to Saturn which contains potential habitable worlds in a different galaxy. The mission aims to locate a new habitat for humanity as Earth is dying.

After a set period of time, Earth will no longer be habitable. Hence, his contribution was needed and compelled him to go with Brand’s daughter, Dr. Amelia Brand (Anne Hathaway) and some scientists. They went through the wormhole and traversed into different planets, all featuring unique tasks and threats. Additionally, time flows differently in the blackhole Gargantua when compared with Earth. For Earth years pass, when hours are being counted in the astronauts’ clock.

In her own father-facing numerous dangerous tasks, Murph (Jessica Chastain) evolves into a fantastic scientist and makes continuous efforts to figure out the equation that revolves around the basis of Earth being escape-able. They both, equally motivated and determined, made attempts to unshackle the race of human beings from doom which narrates the essence of boundless love and compassion. Their ultimate solution lay separated apart with space and time.

The movie reaches its tense climax when Cooper decides to take the risk and jump into the blackhole where he sends life saving data to Murph for safe keeping that becomes accessible when within the blackhole he shudders the gargantua. His daring adventure through the blackhole helps him find the answer that keeps on changing, time boundless zone Cooper explains its the ability to use gravity with a channel towards time. Thus, sounds like a dream but gifted Murph with the answer that humanity strives for.

As humanity’s remnants have escaped to a space station Cooper’s daughter cooperatively labeled Cooper station after her great contributions to human kind, they find solace in Saturn’s orbit. Murph’s work inspired the station’s name. Now, in an old age, Cooper sets forth on a journey once again to look for Brand, who is actively in the process of perpetually colonizing one of the habitable planets.
