Jigra

Synopsis

Jigra uncovers the compelling story of Ira, a woman whose world revolves around her younger sibling, Arjun. The film’s setting is in a metropolitan city where there are sneak peeks of their simple life. Ira is a graphic designer and Arjun is a college student aspiring to be a filmmaker. Their sibling relationship is portrayed in a realistic warm manner with affectionate teasing and deep bonds of shared experiences forged through familial struggles. Their quiet resilience stems from the loss of their parents during their younger years.

As peaceful as everything is, their world is disrupted when Arjun becomes an innocent onlooker to a violent act of crime dealing with a high power dangerous criminal gang. Raghav Sethi, the main leader of the gang is a ruthless businessman that deals in human trafficking organized crime while portraying this false respectable image. In Arjun’s youthful idealism, dreaming of being a filmmaker, he records a crucial video of the gang’s illegal activities, planning on exposing it. These actions, however, make him a target.

With criminals closing in on her, Ira has no other option but to take matters into her own hands when the judicial system is incapable of rendering timely preemptive aid. Her transformation into a relentless guardian of her brother and a fierce young woman willing to do anything is nothing short of extraordinary. What follows is an enthralling account of her fight against violence, ethical grey areas, and rampant urban subculture all for the purpose of keeping Arjun safe.

The title of the movie, Jigra which translates to courage and fortitude, perfectly encapsulates Ira’s metamorphosis. She transforms into a selfless figure whose persistent valor knows no bounds even if it means surrendering her own life and freedom for her brother’s safety. In her journey, she encounters a compassionate officer from the opposing side of the law who grudgingly accepts help in settling personal dues with the syndicate giving her everything she asked for.

The high-tension emotional climax is an explosive face-off between Ira and Raghav Sethi. Without getting into spoiler territory, let me just say the unyielding love and sacrifice from an elder sibling shines through in the ending the film in the strongest way possible.
