Cast & Crew:
With the screenplay featuring in sketch comedies written by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, the distinct style and humor of The Whitest Kids U’ Know influenced the movie in its entirety, including its edgy and surreal undertones. Their distinct variety of satirical and absurd humor marks the film’s fuse.
Cregger as Eugene Bell – Cregger plays the protagonist, a soft-hearted gentleman who is socially off with people. His life changes dramatically after he comes out of a coma. He attempts to express the awkward comedic frustration character evokes with his face.
Trevor Moore as Tucker Cleigh – Moore steals many scenes impersonating Eugene’s bestfriend with his silly and daring persona. He is the source of most of the fun in the film, propelling the pair into ludicrous predicament after lunatic predicament.
Raquel Alessi as Cindi Whitehall – Alessi plays the character of a once guileless girlfriend turned into a Playboy Playmate. Alessi manages to imbue the role with genuine tenderness radiating focus owing to her surface level make-believe character.
Molly Stanton as Candace – One of the fall gags of the film is Candace, who is Tucker’s girlfriend, and has episodic photosensitivity induced seizures along with several of Barbara’s slapstick tricks in the film.
Craig Robinson as Horsedick.MPEG – In a standout role, Robinson portrays a rapper who is Candace’s new boyfriend. His character is outlandish, much akin to his stage name pertaining to candace and her incendiary antics that serve unending amounts of disruption to the plot.
When it comes to directing, both Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore demonstrate an approach that is both distinct and akin to a form of sketch comedy, with numerous scenes appearing like long jokes or punchlines. The hyper pace of the movie caused it to accelerate from nonsensical set piece to another. The film’s speed and pacing hints at the duo’s experience in sketch comedy, although some critics argue that the film’s structure is devoid of the coherence expected from a feature-length film.
IMDb Ratings:
Miss March currently has a 5.0/10 rating on IMDb as of the most recent check. The film’s lackluster reception is well reflected in its middling score. Its reception was both polarizing; some people appreciated the absurd and nonsensical humor while others labeled it as lowbrow comedy with blunt and crass jokes.
Critically, Miss March has received negative reviews across the board. Most reviewers agree the film does little more than rely on juvenile humor and lacks the warmth present in other, better, sex comedies like Superbad and American Pie. Critics often pointed out the absence of character development and cohesive narrative structure but lampooned the movie for lacking nuance in comparison to better published teen comedies.
Nonetheless, for admirers of The Whitest Kids U’ Know, the movie has a small cult following due to its quirky character features and post modern ‘whimsical’ humor. For those who understand Cregger and Moore’s humorous style, it can be said that Miss March is another iteration of their television endeavors, though not achieving the best results in its execution.
As far as box office revenue is concerned, the film did not perform well. It came out in March of 2009 but did not gain traction in any way and was swiftly taken off most cinema halls. Even so, the film found its audience in the home video industry, particularly among younger adults seeking lighthearted mindless entertainment devoid of any seriousness.
To sum up, Miss March leans heavily into its outlandish premise as an aggressive and uncompromising comedy that prioritizes raunchy and brash humor above all else. While its lack of accolades or box office earnings means it is not considered a commercial success, the film remains an intriguing experiment by its creators who attempted to adapt their sketch comedic style to feature films. Whether one views it as a mistake or an undeserved cult classic, it is doubtless that the film holds a distinct place in the decade’s comedic movies.
