How It All Started:
In December 2020, it was confirmed that David Gordon Green is going to direct a movie sequel of the film ‘The Exorcist’. Blumhouse Productions together with Morgan Creek Entertainment is cooperating with making the movie. The movie’s goal was to pick up the story from the original and release it as a sequel. The shooting of the movie began in early 2022, and the team planned to use a combination of practical effects and new age filming techniques to depict the true essence of horror that one felt in the 1973 movie.
Box Office And Release:
The Exorcist: Believer movie was released on October 6, 2023, This movie made around 136 million US dollars gross earnings worldwide whereas the production budget was around 30 million US Dollars which marks the movie as a successful one.
Director’s Remarks:
The movie generally has a mixed review from the viewers and critics alike. Rotten tomatoes has rated the movie 24 percent which according to them means that the movie is unable to restore the essence of the original movie, while Metacritic reports the score of 39 out of 100 which for them indicates generally negative reviews. Amc was also among the critics who criticized the movie by calling it unoriginal, poorly scripted and unnecessary.
RogerEbert.com remarked that although the movie “concentrates on the dual possession of two children aged thirteen years,” it “feels somewhat too mechanical and too much of the same to be worried by. Even overlaid by past movie, As To Exorcist Church has employed many people to witness this event.”
Future of the Franchise:
It was reported in the beginning that ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ is the first chapter of the trilogy. However, based on the audience reactions, the remaining chapters were entirely dropped. In May 2024, it was learned that the screenwriter Mike Flanagan would create another version of Woman or Exorcist Church and that it was “the most terrifying film I’ve owed.”
Conclusion:
With The Exorcist: Believer, the filmmakers aimed at revamping the famous horror franchise by integrating the storyline with the earlier movie the exorcist released in 1973. The film has made a lot of money but was not able to emote that hysteria which its earlier edition managed. The direction of the wider picture now lies with him as he attempts to cut off ‘the exposer’ and tell another scary story based on the other.
