Adrift tells the story of Tami and Richard’s sailing exploits through a non-linear narrative structure, blending Richard and Tami’s love story with their relationship’s brutal hurricane aftermath. This offers them a dream proposition – cross the Pacific for good pay and one-of-a-kind experience together. Little do they know, this is the path into the eye of Category 4 Hurricane Raymond.
The hurricane strikes without warning, and with torrential intensity. The Hazaña is pummeled by massive waves, the mast is broken, the engine and all forms of navigation are futile. Richard is thrown from the boat and goes missing. Tami is knocked out until midway through the storm and wakes up to find the boat destroyed and herself in the water with a cut on her head and a dislocated shoulder.
She locates Richard against proverbial impossible odds, clinging to wreckage with a shattered leg and internal injuries. Using her ingenuity, she manages to bring him aboard, over 41 days Tami uses ingenuity to ration food, collect rainwater, and steer more than 1500 miles towards Hawaii.
The emotional climax reveals an unexpected twist, he never survived the hurricane. Trauma and her isolation imagination Richard as coping mechanism Tami’s presence.
