Synopsis
In the year 2015, Hate Story 3, an Indian erotic thriller, was released, and it was directed by Vishal Pandya, with Bhushan Kumar producing it under the T-series banner. This is the third part of the Hate Story erotic thriller franchise, which is known for its blend of sensuality, revenge, and high-voltage drama. While incorporating elements of love, betrayal and vengeence in this film like the prior films of the franchise, the stakes this time, with the subplot of the story, are far more complex and intense.
The film’s storyline focuses on Aditya Diwan (Sharman Joshi), who is a wealthy businessman and seemingly leads a perfect life alongside his beautiful wife Siya (Zareen Khan). Aditya is a successful businessman who inherited the family business after his elder brother Vikram died unexpectedly. Their relationship seems perfect, and they enjoy personal as well as professional bliss. Everything seems peaceful, until a strange businessman named Saurav Singhania (Karan Singh Grover) enters the scene.
Even the most cunning of long-term planners, like Saurav, need to improvise once in a while. In desperate new plans where possibilities emerge during moments of revelation, charmer Saurav suggests giving Aditya one of the most notable business deals he has ever encountered, but with the shocking condition that he be paid for one night with Siya. Aditya was enraged and sans reconsidering it rejected it outright, but now a breathtaking premise begins that culminates in incontrovertible revelations of inter-character links in ways unforeseen.
In parallel to other subplots happening, the nature of the tender reveals that Saurav is still up to something with Aditya and most likely wants to hit him hard below the belt in the personal and professional sense. While stringing together clues Saurav sets up circumstances to initiate attacks that dismantle Aditya’s business empire one by one and includes targeting Siya to fracture their marriage. Supported by her husband, Siya, an exemplary strong wife stands for her marriage, but with turns of Saurav’s onslaught the balance is swinging like a pendulum.
As the chaos continues we get introduced to a new character, Aditya’s secretary, Kavya. Her part in the story deepens the K-Drama elements as she strides into the crosshairs of Saurav’s elaborate machinations. The film slowly exposes lie after lie this installment deviating from the classic summer outing feels packed into Beyond 2 and giving slice of life films feel grounded while allowing the audience to understand that Saurav’s revenge is rooted deeper into the past.
Without delving into too many spoilers, Saurav’s motivations tie to Aditya’s late brother Vikram and a web of deceit and rivalry. The narrative rushes towards a climactic duel pitting Aditya against Saurav, with myriad surprises in the approach to the showdown that keeps the audience engaged until the very last moments.
Hate Story 3 is a saga of love, lust, and vengeance intertwined amidst business conflicts and personal grudges. It reveals the extremes people will go to for revenge and what such obsession costs them.
Cast and Crew
The film has an ensemble of much-admired Bollywood stars who add depth and dazzle to the narrative:
Sharman Joshi as Aditya Diwan: As Sharman steps into the shoes of a corporate tycoon, he does so with surprising ease. Holding steadfast to his earlier work in comedy and drama, Sharman delivers a nuanced and powerful portrayal of a man entrenched in a deadly struggle for power and revenge.
Zareen Khan as Siya Diwan: Zareen plays the courageous bipartisan wife who supports the husband through thick and thin. The role required a dichotomy of fragility and strength which Zareen manages quite well, particularly during the many emotional scenes.
Karan Singh Grover as Saurav Singhania: Karan’s performance as the stylish yet ruthless villain is particularly memorable for me. With Saurav, it is hard to miss Karan’s screen presence paired with his attractive brooding personality.
Daisy Shah as Kavya: Daisy is captivating and adds a layer of complexity as Kavya, Aditya’s secretary. Her character plays a crucial role in exacerbating the conflict between the protagonists.
In a minor role, Priyanshu Chatterjee portrays Vikram Diwan, Aditya’s deceased brother, whose actions in the past set into motion the plot of the film.

Music:
Even before the film was released, the soundtrack of Hate Story 3 was extremely popular. The music added significantly to the appeal of the film and was created by numerous artists such as Amaal Mallik and Meet Bros Anjjan, who composed songs that went on to become hits like “Tumhe Apna Banane Ka” and “Wajah Tum Ho”.
IMDb Ratings
As for Hate Story 3, it currently holds an approximate rating of 4.5/10 on IMDb which indicates mixed to negative reviews. While audiences appreciated the film for its glamor, chart-topping music, and bold narrative, critics pointed out its predictable plot and melodramatic execution.
Production design and cinematography were also points of appreciation including the catchy songs, which did align with the expectations of the genre. Still, a significant portion of reviewers noted the reliance on sensuality without developing the characters as a major flaw. The dialogues verged on melodrama while some of the twists were not quite as seamless as they could have been.
Regardless of the critical disdain, Hate Story 3 did manage to excel in the box office due to its music, star cast, and the pre-existing fanbase of the franchise. The movie did succeed in catering to those in search of a glamorous revenge thriller, thus securing its position as a commercially successful Bollywood erotic thriller.
